California requires all alcohol servers to obtain RBS (Responsible Beverage Service) certification, which became mandatory statewide in 2022. Bartenders must be at least 21 years old to serve alcohol. The California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) oversees licensing. RBS certification must be completed within 60 days of hire and is valid for 3 years. Serving hours are 6:00 AM to 2:00 AM statewide.
