Illinois requires all bartenders and alcohol servers to complete the Beverage Alcohol Sellers and Servers Education and Training (BASSET) certification. This state-mandated program covers responsible alcohol service, checking IDs, and recognizing intoxication. BASSET certification must be completed within 30 days of beginning work. Illinois bartenders must be at least 18 years old (21 to serve in some jurisdictions).
